President Prabowo Subianto vows during a meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House that he will continue to work hard to strengthen the relation between the two countries.
resident Prabowo Subianto called the United States a great partner of Indonesia during his meeting with his US counterpart Joe Biden and pledged to reinforce the diplomatic relationship between the two countries that have been ongoing for nearly eight decades.
“The US, for us, is a very great friend,” Prabowo said in his opening remarks upon meeting Biden at White House on Tuesday local time.
“Therefore, I will work very hard to strengthen the Indonesia-United States relationship, and I would like to work toward this end that we have strong cooperation,” he continued.
Indonesia and the US are celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, with Prabowo noting that the US had been supporting Indonesia since the latter’s struggle for independence in the 1940s
“I’m proud that the partnership between our countries is stronger than it’s ever been,” Biden said.
Among things that were discussed by both presidents were issues related to the Indo-Pacific region, with Biden asserting the importance of putting ASEAN at its center.
“As two of the largest democracies in the world, it seems to me our nations have a special responsibility in this vision,” the 81-year-old US president said.
