US President Joe Biden said Israel's three-stage offer would begin with a six-week phase that would see Israeli forces withdraw from all populated areas of Gaza.

At the Shangri-La Dialogue, Prabowo said United States President Joe Biden's three-phase proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza was a step in the right direction.

Talks, mediated by among others Egypt and Qatar, to arrange a ceasefire between Israel and the Islamist movement in the Gaza war have repeatedly stalled with both sides blaming the other for the lack of progress.

Blinken told reporters during a visit to Moldova that what weapons were used and how they were used would have to be the object of an investigation into the attack.

The Indonesian embassy in Amman, Jordan, has set a level 1 alert for Israel and Palestine. Meanwhile, the embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, has set the same alert level for southern Lebanon.

The 193-member UN General Assembly traditionally meets to pay tribute to any world leader who was a sitting head of state at the time of their death. The tribute will feature speeches about Raisi.

"The massacre committed by the Israeli occupation army in the refugee tents northwest of Rafah city in the southern Gaza Strip has left 40 martyrs and 65 wounded," Mohammad al-Mughayyir, a senior official at the civil defence agency, told AFP.

Indonesia supports an order by the United Nations top court for Israel to halt its military offensive in Rafah, calling on Israel to comply, while Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi is in Brussels to intensify diplomacy with European countries for a permanent solution in Gaza.

An Israeli official said the government had an "intention" to restart stalled negotiations over the coming days.

Ceasefire talks involving US, Egyptian and Qatari mediators ended shortly after Israel launched the Rafah operation, though Netanyahu's office this week said the war cabinet had asked the Israeli delegation "to continue negotiations for the return of the hostages".

The three nations hope other countries will follow suit, but France said now was not the right moment -- yet Paris noted recognition was not "taboo".

Delivering a keynote speech at the Israeli embassy's annual Independence Day reception, Johnson, the top congressional Republican and a critic of the Democratic president’s Israel policy, said it would be “a strong show of support for the Israeli government in their time of greatest need.”
