The president is due to recognize a Palestinian state in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, following up on a pledge he made in the summer that angered Israel.

Foreign Minister Sugiono kicked off this week’s whirlwind of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) meetings in the United States by calling on member states to step up protections for humanitarian workers, co-hosting the launch of a related declaration while spotlighting the plight of aid personnel in Gaza.

Indonesia has reaffirmed its support for Qatar and called for diplomatic efforts toward a just and lasting peace in the Middle East based on a two-state solution.

Belgium will recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly, Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot said on Tuesday, adding to international pressure on Israel after similar moves by Australia, Britain, Canada and France.
