Theater may seem boring to some, but actor Reza Rahadian is hopeful that people will be able to see beyond that.
“I hope people can see that theatrical play isn't always about boring things. It isn't always about something that the younger generation will feel it is too old for them,” Reza told The Jakarta Post on Thursday during a press conference on the upcoming play Bunga Penutup Abad, where he is casted as Minke.
The actor, who first performed on stage at the age of 16 in a play called Hanoman, said he expected Bunga Penutup Abad to become a locomotive for other plays. "I hope people will develop more appreciation for theatrical plays, especially commercial ones, and more Indonesian actors and actresses will get involved.

Bunga Penutup Abad is a play based on Pramoedya Ananta Toer’s Bumi Manusia (Earth of Mankind) and Anak Semua Bangsa (Children of All Nations). The story focuses on the life of a Javanese boy, Minke, and Dutch concubine Nyai Ontosoroh (Happy Salma) after the latter's daughter, Annelies (Chelsea Islan) left for the Netherlands.
Following a new schedule, the play is slated to be staged from Aug. 25 to Aug. 27 at Gedung Kesenian Jakarta in Central Jakarta. (kes)
