hen word spread that Mel Gibson and Casey Affleck has been nominated for the 89th Academy Awards as best director for Hacksaw Ridge and best actor for Manchester by the Sea, respectively, many were outraged due to their roles as subjects of lawsuits in the past.

Affleck received a lot of flak for alleged sexual misconduct in 2010, while Gibson was given the cold shoulder by Hollywood for a notorious anti-Semitic, misogynistic rant in 2006, followed by being accused of domestic violence by his wife.

Provoked by Tuesday's nominations, a Twitter user posted “Mel Gibson and Casey Affleck in Oscar noms, head woman assaulter is literally president, and people have the audacity to ask why women marched," as quoted by nydailynews.com.

Another tweet that drew comparisons between the nominations and the election of President Donald Trump read “Hollywood loves to bash Donald Trump but they sure do love embracing scumbags like Mel Gibson and Casey Affleck.”

Constance Wu, Fresh Off the Boat TV show star, sarcastically vented “Men who sexually harass women 4 OSCAR! Because good acting performance matters more than humanity, human integrity! Because poor kid really needs the help!”

Other tweets from Wu conveyed her sheer disappointment over the fact that allegedly predatory men in Hollywood were praised instead of ignored. (nik/kes)
