hat a lovely month February is. The season of love and romance has finally arrived and couples around the globe are on the same hunt, looking the perfect place to spend what the world calls the most romantic day, Valentine’s Day, with their partner or spouse.

To help you find the most suitable establishment for your occasion, we've compiled a list of restaurants that are not only romantic but also satisfying in the entire execution.

ROMANTIC DINNER

Emilie

Emilie is one of the old-guard French restaurants in Jakarta, yet its cuisine never fails to mesmerize urban gourmands as it always keeps up with modern trends but holds a clear grasp of its classic French gastronomy. Clean and comfortable, guests can expect nicely arranged white table-cloth settings in a marmoreal dining room armed with a legion of attentive front-of-house staff who bring to your table the most finely executed French cuisine.

Emilie, Jl. Senopati No. 39, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, (021) 5213626, $$$ (Dinner)

Sriwijaya

Sriwijaya at The Dharmawangsa used to be a French restaurant. However, four years ago it remodeled and now serves Indonesian fine dining. The room is dimly lit with luminous candles on the tables. The colossal yet luxury setting of Sriwijaya makes it one of the most romantic places to eat in the city. The food is modern Indonesian, a marriage between tradition and modernity.

Sriwijaya, The Dharmawangsa Hotel, Lobby Level, Jl. Brawijaya Raya No. 26, South Jakarta, (021) 7258181, $$$ (Dinner)

GAIA

Nothing is more romantic than enjoying splendid Italian cooking with your loved ones, with the lively Jakarta night skyline as the background. Gigantic windows that rise to the ceiling, a shiny wooden interior, a great front-of-house team that always ensures you are well handled. Gaia is the matchless Italian restaurant in the capital for its view and significant Italian wine collection to pair perfectly with your dinner.

GAIA, Altitude at The Plaza, 46th Floor, Jl. MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, (021) 29922448, $$$ (Dinner)

Akira Back

Akira Back satisfies every aspect of what good eating is all about: the food, the service and the ambiance. For your special romantic dinner, surround yourself with great contemporary Japanese/Korean cooking by Chef Andry, excellent service and a contemporary restaurant interior. It has great cocktails and wine too.

Akira Back, MD Place Building, 12th floor, Jl. Setiabudi Selatan No. 7, South Jakarta, (021) 29040777, $$$ (Dinner)

CASUAL DINNER

Plataran Dharmawangsa

Nothing can compete with Plataran Dharmawangsa's cultural, regal surroundings. Its wooden Javanese joglo has been modernized with an additional wing of glass chambers overlooking the leafy garden; it is matchless, as is its brilliantly executed Indonesian menu that not only makes diners feels at home but also accommodates their expectations of great Indonesian cooking.

Plataran Dharmawangsa, Jl. Dharmawangsa No. 6, South Jakarta, (021) 29044167, $$ (moderate)

When we are talking about Caffe Milano we mean a satisfying Italian restaurant. The place is dimly lit, as many patrons can be recognized, and offers excellent cooking. Its cuisine starts from the classic risotto alla Milanese to the cup-of-excellence tiramisu to make your evening even merrier.

Caffe Milano, Central Dept Store G-Floor, Grand Indonesia Shopping Town East Mall, Jl. MH Thamrin No. 1, Central Jakarta, (021) 2358063, $$ (moderate)

Bistro Baron

If a person ask me where, oh where, can I find a great French restaurant other than a fine dining establishment, then Bistro Baron will make the list. The restaurant has just been renovated to complete your comfort. Yet nothing has changed with its great French bistro menu, from the classic soupe a l'oignon (onion soup) to herb-crusted lamb rack. The ambiance is bright and friendly with a splash of Parisian eatery. A good place for a bright romantic dinner.

Bistro Baron, Plaza Indonesia. Level 1, Jl. MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, (021) 29923505, $$ (moderate)

Mamma Rosy

The terrace seating at Mamma Rosy(Mamma Rosy/File)

Excellent Italian home cooking made by a real Italian mother. This is the place for you and your partner to enjoy the evening in a light manner. (kes)
