Not everyone is keen on the idea of going away for the vacation. This is a guide for all homebodies out there -- whatever your favorite genre is.
he summer vacation is upon us, and rumor has it that this one is going to be long indeed. Not everyone is keen on the idea of going away during their vacation, opting to stay at home and binge-watch the time away instead.
This is a guide for all homebodies out there -- whatever your favorite genre is.
POLITICS
House of Cards
If you have heard about House of Cards but have never actually watched Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) scheme his way up the ladder, start now. The intricate storyline might be hard to follow at first. But hey, at least you won't end the vacation braindead since watching House of Cards requires some ability to concentrate.
Designated Survivors
Yes, it's another political drama. While House of Cards eerily mirrors reality, Designated Survivors is a 'what if?' take on American politics. The shows begins with a very simple premise on the “designated survivor” concept, someone from the United States government who is hidden during the State of the Union address in case everyone else in the executive branch of government is dead. It just happens that America’s newest president is the least competent of all.

DRAMA
Thirteen Reasons Why
This is the 'it' series in the first half of 2017, and for a reason too. While the source-of-adaptation book is marketed toward the teen demographic, the series is easily digestible by adults too. Welcome to the world of high school, where rumors, bullying, peer pressure and suicides are real and sometimes inescapable.
Narcos
Pablo Escobar is a legendary figure in America, and the Netflix original series successfully fleshes the name out and brings the character to life. The series follows the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar and two United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) agents involved in the drug lord manhunt. The show received positive reviews for its genuine portrayal, despite criticism from Escobar's son.
Riverdale
Archie is now live on screen. Enjoy the rivalry/friendship between Betty and Veronica in this take on Archie. The series is set in a darker side of Riverdale, full of murder, secrets, and conspiracies. The story follows the gang's attempt to reveal who is actually behind Jason Bourne's murder.

FANTASY
Game of Thrones
Brace yourself, the seventh season of your beloved TV series is coming on July 16 -- just a few weeks after the vacation ends. In case you want to replenish your Game of Thrones bank of knowledge and remember all the now-hazy details, this vacation is the perfect time. The night can be dark and full of terrors, but we all find solace as long as Game of Thrones is playing on screen.
American Gods
Coming from Neil Gaiman, American Gods tells a world that is not too different from ours, but with a twist. If the world is often divided by religions and the gods people believe in, American Gods' universe shows the gods at war because of humans. The series follows the journey of ex-convict Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) and the shady Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), as the later recruits the old gods to fight alongside him against the new gods -- hemled by Media, Technology, and Mr. World.

Black Mirror
Although there are not many episodes, Black Mirror is still a feasible option for your vacation TV marathon. Unlike other TV series, each Black Mirror episode is a standalone, all exploring the impact of technology on our lives. After all the episodes, you can either end up fearing your webcam or ecstatically singing “Heaven is A Place on Earth”.
Westworld
Also from HBO, Westworld is dubbed as the next Game of Thrones -- whose violent end is nearing. Loosely adapted from the 1973 movie, Westworld takes visitors inside a Wild West-styled theme park filled with robots, or hosts, if you will. Glitches and personal interests disrupt the machinery of the park, spilling blood and changing the course of life as we know it. (kes)
