It probably never crossed Benjamin Glaze’s mind that popstar Katy Perry would be his first kiss.

The then 19-year-old boy auditioned for American Idol last October, hoping to be one of the finalists. However, instead of getting a ticket to stay in the singing contest, Glaze came home with a first kiss from Perry.

The footage, which aired earlier this week, shows how Glaze entered the audition room and met the three judges: Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

The never-been-kissed Glaze introduced himself briefly to the judges, telling them that he loved his job as a cashier in an electronics store as he got to meet cute girls.

Bryan asked if Glaze had kissed a girl and liked it, referencing Perry’s first hit single, “I Kissed a Girl”.

Glaze admitted that he had not, because he had never been in a relationship.

“I can’t kiss a girl without being in a relationship,” said Glaze.

In response to Glaze’s statement, Perry asked the young boy to move forward and kiss her.

“One on the cheek?” asked Glaze, quickly kissing Perry’s cheek.

Perry requested another kiss, because Glaze didn’t even made the smush sound.

As Glaze moved toward Perry’s cheek, the popstar moved her face and kissed him on the lips.

Glaze was shocked and fell down on the floor. Prior to finally singing for the judges, he requested water.

Glaze told The New York Times via telephone that the kiss made him a bit uncomfortable as he wanted to save it for his first relationship.

“Would I have done it if she said, ‘Would you kiss me?’ No, I would have said no,” he said. “I know a lot of guys would be like, ‘Heck yeah!’ But for me, I was raised in a conservative family and I was uncomfortable immediately. I wanted my first kiss to be special.”

However, Glaze did not feel that Perry sexually harassed him. The now 20-year-old found a silver lining, thinking the kiss had allowed him to have more screen time.

“I’m glad she did it because it’s a great opportunity to get my music out,” said Glaze.

Well, perhaps in another life, Perry would be Glaze’s girl. But for now, Glaze is just “The One That Got Away”. (jes/wng)
