he script for the film adaptation of Indonesian survival horror video game DreadOut took four years to write, in an extensive preparation process that was realized in a 33-day shoot.
The shooting finished in August, following a six-month pre-production period in adapting the game, which was produced by Digital Happiness Bandung.
"We were not playing around with our preparations," Wida Handoyo, one of the film producers, said in Bandung on Sunday as quoted by tempo.co .
The film was written and directed by Kimo Stamboel, with a game creator from Digital Happiness Bandung, Rachmad Imron, also involved throughout the production process.

Wida said one of the biggest challenges in the film was the high level of expectations from fans of the widely popular game. The film production team was careful in combining different ideas to create a solid concept, Wida added.
"We were also careful in the casting choices, searching for actors very thoroughly," Wida said.
The shooting took place in several locations, including Jakarta and Ciawi and Cibodas in West Java.
DreadOut is the first locally made game to be adapted to the big screen. Wida acknowledged that she wanted to emulate the success of foreign studio's approaches to film adaptations. "We hope the gamer community will be curious about this film," she said.
Relative to the video game itself, the amount of violence had been reduced, Wida noted, as the film targeted the teenage audience.
As in the original game, the main character in the film is a high school student named Linda, who is played by 18-year-old Caitlin Halderman. The movie explores the supernatural realm and will have elements of horror. (liz/wng)
