tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II booked Rp 6.91 trillion in revenue last year, marking a 24 percent increase from the previous year.

AP II CEO Muhammad Awaluddin said the aero business had contributed 60 percent of the revenue, while the rest came from non-aero business activities.

“Soekarno-Hatta International Airport contributed Rp 4.6 trillion, followed by Kualanamu Airport in Medan,” said Awaluddin, as reported by kompas.com on Monday.

Awaludin said his company had not yet finished calculating last year’s net profit.

He added that in the future, his company would pay serious attention to boosting non-aero business to make this the main source of revenue for the company.

Non-aero business activities include properties, warehouses, cargo, retail and airport services.

Part of the efforts to boost the non-aero business is to develop an airport city, or aerotropolis. The company said it had prepared 200 hectares of land near Kualanamu Airport. It would also develop office and residential complexes, entertainment facilities and hotels near airports.

Awaluddin said Kualanamu Airport would be developed into an international hub, so that it would be able to ease the burden of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.  “Four parties have expressed an interest in becoming a partner of AP II,” he added. (bbn)
