he Jakarta Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu Jakarta) has promised to intensify supervision on election day by using an information technology-based monitoring system.
Bawaslu Jakarta head Mimah Susanti said Tuesday that the monitoring system provided by Bawaslu headquarters would gather complete documentation of election activities at 13,023 polling stations in the capital.
The documentation will be gathered by all polling station supervisors who will video record and take photos of the voting process with their smartphones, Mimah said.
“The supervisors should also record voters using recommendation letters for voting or any suspicious voters who try to vote twice,” Mimah said, adding that officers should also record the process of document recapitulation, or C1 forms.
The documentation should be directly uploaded to the system by each supervisor after voting has finished. Should there be an ensuing election dispute, Bawaslu would have evidence to submit to court, Mimah said.
“We know that implementing this system will be challenging because not all supervisors use Android phones. However, we hope that 70 percent of supervisors can use this system,” she said, adding that Bawaslu would provide internet data to ease the process.
Separately, Dirja Abdul Kadir, the head of the general department of Bawaslu, said the monitoring system would also be implemented in other regions, such as North Sulawesi and Papua.
