Ready to accept technology

Let us congratulate Dwi Soetjipto on his recent appointment as the new head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKKMigas), although it is not clear how long he will be in this position if the new idea of establishing a special oil and gas body materializes.

et us congratulate Dwi Soetjipto on his recent appointment as the new head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKKMigas), although it is not clear how long he will be in this position if the new idea of establishing a special oil and gas body materializes.

Energy and Mineral Resources Deputy Minister Arcandra Tahar said giant oil discovery was not something impossible if the country had the technology and was ready to accept new technology for exploration, where he also said “giant discovery would be a reality if we begin to see the following factors [technology, efficiency, accountability and capable human capital]”.

I personally believe that the four requirements can be met. Technology is available but not being accepted at this time, while capable human capital is available if workers are allowed to have a sense of responsibility. Possibly the one that needs improvement is efficiency, although this comes with accountability.

In other words, the four requirements are basically in place, but need a little bit of fine-tuning. Indonesia does have a wealth of experienced people who are well trained and respected, but this does not matter if decision makers do not make decisions that allow these people to do what is required to meet the country’s requirements.
