Real husbands share joy of cooking during Ramadan with Kecap ABC

D

espite the growing awareness among husbands in Indonesia about the importance of contributing to household work, home meal preparations are mostly left to wives.

According to a study, more than 75 percent of chores are shared by husbands and wives. When it comes to cooking, however, less than 3 out of 10 husbands help their wives in the kitchen. This means that cooking is mostly done by the wives and only a small number of husbands either have skills in cooking or an interest in helping in the kitchen.

For most wives, including working ones, cooking may have become part of their daily chores and they do it joyfully in accordance with their own schedules.

However, cooking during the holy month of Ramadan must certainly be a challenge. The cooking process is not typical in terms of time. The wives have to prepare sahur (predawn meal), which can last between 3 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. This means that during every Ramadan, the wives, who commonly go to bed last, have to wake up half or one hour before 3 a.m.

Imagine waking up at such an hour, a time when everybody is sleeping soundly! They must feel incredibly sleepy! There are also feelings of fatigue, because they also work to make ends meet and go to bed late! But they do it wholeheartedly as they believe it as part of a religious service.

The wives who do the “silent” job are, indeed, taking part in a form of noble “sacrifice” that requires appreciation from their husbands.

In order for more husbands to show their wives the appreciation they deserve, Kecap ABC launched its Ramadan campaign, #SuamiSejatiMasakSahur (#RealHusbandsCookSahur). The campaign aims to encourage husbands to cook for the predawn meal for their wives as a token of appreciation.

.

As part of the campaign event, a walking band of several men dressed with cooking aprons bearing the name Kecap ABC chanted loudly, “Sahur-sahur.  Suami sejati ayo bangun bantu istri masak. Sahur… sahur…” (Real husband. Please wake up and help your wife cook for the predawn meal), after midnight at about 2 a.m.

They chanted loudly while rhythmically beating saucepans, frying pans and other cooking utensils. The drum parade awakens the sleepy and curious husbands and wives. Under the guidance of chef Gerry Girianza, the husbands participated in cooking an easy first recipe, namely soun udang (prawns mixed with glass noodles).

When the predawn meal was ready, the husbands give the dishes to their wives in what was called Sajian Sahur Suami Sejati. The wives received the dish delightfully and they had the meal together.

While waiting for subuh (predawn), they listened to a sermon delivered by a Muslim priest in a Kajian Subuh and the activity was ended with subuh praying with all family members, aka Subuh Bersama.

The event was held in Depok and Bandung, West Java, on May 18 and 19 from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Kecap ABC is made with the top-ranked soy beans that guarantee great tasting meals. The husbands looked happy at being able to cook the dish for sahur thanks to Kecap ABC.

.

But the Ramadan campaign does not stop there as Idul Fitri, which marks the end of Ramadan, is still about two weeks away. That’s why as a brand who stands for gender equality, Kecap ABC also prepared the Akademi Suami Sejati website, which serves as a platform for husbands who believe in equality in marriage and the kitchen.

The website also serves a place where husbands can embody their wants and express their gratitude to Kecap ABC for the recipe it gave, which makes Indonesian foods for daily meals tasty and rich in taste, as well as easy for anyone to cook.

Here, the husbands can learn tips and trick in the kitchen given by chef Gerry Girianza, and try the recipe, which will result in the wives and family loving the new cooking skill that the husbands learned.

By being able to cook, you can be a real husband that can be a partner of your wife in the kitchen. And during Ramadan, you can share the joy of preparing a predawn meal with your wife!

So, hurry up and register by clicking “register” at the top of the website. Be a real and helpful husband, a real husband who cooks.
