ndonesia, a nation abundant in natural resources and breathtaking landscapes, has diligently pursued diverse strategies to safeguard and preserve its environment.

This commitment becomes even more paramount in the face of environmental disruptions which makes the significance of environmental conservation an urgency. As rising temperatures across the globe have marked the era of global warming, Indonesia also bears the brunt of climate change and uncertain weather patterns, affecting hundreds of millions of lives every day.

Moreover, proud organizations of Indonesia today tackle this issue as an opportunity to blossom for the greater good of the nation, tracing its continuity as a home for their people.

For the first time ever, in a harmonious fusion of history and environmental stewardship, the Bakti Lingkungan Djarum Foundation (BLDF) embarks on this extraordinary journey by launching its innovative movement, Siap Darling (Siap Sadar Lingkungan) in Sumatra.

Siap Darling, meaning environmentally conscious, is a digital movement that breathes life into the past while planting the seeds of a greener future, and one can witness the transformation at the Murajambi temple complex, a historical gem nestled in Sumatra.

“We continue our commitment to the preservation of the environment in historical heritage sites, which is being done for the first time in the Sumatra region […] partly due to the unique value of this temple complex as well as the fact that the temple was one of the largest educational institutes in the world. BLDF encourages the younger generation, especially university students, to take tangible steps to be more environmentally conscious,” said FX Supanji, the program director of BLDF.

Supanji eloquently captures the essence of this green initiative.

This venture marks a monumental first for the Sumatra region, becoming a canvas for BLDF’s commitment to conservation and sustainability.

Championing since 2019, the Siap Darling digital movement itself encourages an ecological mindfulness and action where young minds and environmental enthusiasts unite to revitalize the land while paying homage to its storied past.

Partnering with 200 students from prestigious institutions such as the University of Jambi, the State Islamic University of Sultan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi and the University of Batanghari, to name a few, BLDF has planted 11,920 trees and shrubs across four majestic temples within the Muarajambi complex. These temples include Candi Kedaton, Candi Gumpung, Candi Tinggi I and Candi Tinggi II.

However, the significance of this movement is beyond ecological conservation.

With every tree, the foundation fosters an ecosystem of nature and tourism where the trees wave toward a future where the complex is a thriving destination. The governor of Jambi, Al Haris, extends his delighted emotions toward this harmony of a sustainable future where history, culture and the environment bridge in harmony.

“On behalf of the people and the Jambi provincial administration, I express my appreciation and gratitude to the Djarum Foundation through the BLDF and all parties involved for their contribution and collaboration in environmental conservation through greening and tree-planting efforts,” said Haris.

This is a happy beginning for us Indonesians. The potential ripple effects of this green revolution are vast as they weave a narrative of coexistence between humanity and the natural world.

Agus Widiatmoko, the head of the Region V Preservation Center for Jambi and Bangka Belitung Provinces, emphasizes how the Siap Darling movement ignited insightful discussions, “Murajambi temple complex, with its increasing number of visitors, undoubtedly requires more attention to its cleanliness and environmental preservation. The tree planting momentum also serves as a means to collectively increase awareness in caring for the ecosystem in this historic area.”

BLDF’s Siap Darling movement is not merely a collection of trees, but a symphony of hope and actualization of actions reverberating through the corridors of time, making our nation a better home for the generations to come.

As the sun sets over the Muarajambi temple complex, a new dawn of possibility emerges.

With each tree planted, every unfurling of leaves, every celebration of the heritage fusion and environmental consciousness will remember BLDF’s noble endeavor, the Siap Darling.

Standing as a beacon of inspiration toward a world that echoes to a green embrace, BLDF has taken center stage as one of Indonesia’s many and finest green initiatives.
