Massive industrial action in Jakarta planned on Wednesday, unions say.
abor unions have announced plans for a five-day strike that would involve millions of workers across Indonesia to protest against the Job Creation Law and against monthly minimum wage hikes below unions’ expectations.
Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) president Said Iqbal said workers would urge the government to revoke the Job Creation Law and as well as Government Regulation No. 36/2021 on wages, which is based on that law.
“Third, [we will demand that] local governments across Indonesia revoke their respective governors’ decrees on minimum wages,” he said on Monday as quoted by Kontan.co.id.
The national-scale strike would be held at three spots, namely the State Palace, the Constitutional Court and City Hall, all located in Central Jakarta.
He went on to say that 50,000 to 100,000 members of 60 labor union federations from the Greater Jakarta area would attend the strike, which would be held on Dec. 8.

“There is a good chance that hundreds of thousands of workers will join the series of rallies in each province, city and subdistrict across the country. There is a good chance millions of workers will join,” Iqbal said.
