The prolonged delay in transferring the airport's management to private operator ATS seems to be coming to a close, but the details remain murky, especially on the Air Force-ATS deal that initiated the handover.
tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II) has announced it is handing over the management of Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport to operator PT Angkasa Transportindo Selaras (ATS), ending a decade-long dispute over the airfield, which comprises both the commercial airport and an Indonesian Air Force base but is owned by the Indonesian Military (TNI).
AP II spokesperson Akbar Putra Mardhika said on Friday the company had agreed to transfer management of the 21-hectare commercial airport to ATS as stipulated in a 2015 Supreme Court decision.
“AP II is complying with the Supreme Court’s decision,” Akbar said in a statement.
Air Force officials said the transfer had been completed after a meeting on Tuesday between the two airport operators and the Air Force, which agreed to conclude the delayed transfer the following day.

In 2010, the Air Force inked a deal worth Rp 17 billion with ATS for the company to operate the airport for at least 21 years starting that same year. Despite the agreement, AP II remained at the airport until Wednesday, when the transfer finally took place.
Halim airport has been used for years to reduce the load on the country’s primary international hub, Soekarno-Hatta, although the property also contains an active Air Force base.
