SAI20 chairwoman Isma Yatun said the document would be delivered to the Group of 20 Summit in November to be “reflected” in the G20 leaders’ declaration.
Marking an achievement of diplomacy, the Supreme Audit Institutions 20 (SAI20) engagement group has come to an agreement at a summit in Bali despite geopolitical tension between Russia and the West.
In a press conference after the last committee session on Tuesday, SAI20 chairwoman Isma Yatun said the communiqué would be delivered to the Group of 20 (G20) Summit in November to be “reflected” in the G20 leaders’ declaration.
The communiqué emerging from the summit is the first one issued by a state-institutions-led G20 engagement group this year, and the third overall from G20 engagement groups, after those produced by the Women 20 and Youth 20 groups.
“SAIs needs to work closely with representative institutions and other stakeholders to carry out their independent oversight function to produce G20 programs and policies,” Isma told reporters in Bali on Tuesday.
In this communiqué, Isma said, the SAI20 called for governments to increase accountability and transparency in public administration, particularly with regard to the economic recovery, and to make progress on the sustainable development goals (SDGs) agenda.
“As the COVID-19 pandemic begins to subside, it is increasingly important for governments to focus on economic recovery and achieving the SDGs. SAI20 is here to make a real contribution to the achievement of these two targets,” Isma added.
On Monday, the SAI20 Summit adopted rules of procedure (RoP) that would regulate future SAI20 meetings, with India to succeed Indonesia in holding the rotating presidency in 2023, and Brazil in 2024.
