second group of local firms has started construction on projects such as hotels, shopping malls and hospitals in the nation’s new capital city Nusantara, which is currently under development in North Penajem Paser, East Kalimantan.

During a collective groundbreaking ceremony officiated by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday, Nusantara Capital City (IKN) Authority head Bambang Susantono said the President had instructed his office to “prioritize local investors” before opening projects to foreign investors.

Among the projects inaugurated at the ceremony was the Pakuwon Nusantara project helmed PT Pakuwon Nusantara Abadi (PNA), a subsidiary of publicly listed property firm PT Pakuwon Jati.

PNA director Alexander Stefanus Ridwan Suhendra said at Wednesday’s event that the company had invested Rp 5 trillion (US$313.5 million) into the multifunctional residential complex, which would have one mall, three hotels with 800 rooms, two condominium towers and an apartment complex.

The firm was working on the project with major international hotel brands, such as Sheraton, Marriott and Westin.
