Indonesia looks to expand reach in Chinese market

The motivation to export to China's vast population and middle-income group was behind the decision to partake for the sixth time in the China International Import Expo (CIIE), held in Shanghai, which wrapped up last week, Ambassador DJauhari Oratmangun said.

ndonesia is looking to capitalize on China's population of over 1.4 billion people and middle-income group of over 400 million people to boost its exports to the world’s second-largest economy.

The motivation was behind the decision from the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing to partake for the sixth time in the China International Import Expo (CIIE), held in Shanghai, which wrapped up last week, Ambassador DJauhari Oratmangun said.

"Indonesia has been participating since the first CIEE, and every year, Indonesia's participation continues to grow. This year, 20 participants from Indonesia are participating individually or with the Indonesian booth organized by the Trade Ministry," Djauhari said.

The ambassador said the participation of some of Indonesia's most famous brands in the CIIE was designed to increase awareness of Indonesian products among Chinese buyers.

For this year, Indonesia focused on introducing more brands of food products, as they have carved a niche in the Chinese market. Last year, the export value of these products increased by nearly 100 percent from the previous year.

"Food products will be the flagship products we want to promote to the Chinese market. And the CIIE is one of the excellent platforms for branding our flagship products," he said.
