The tourism minister says the presidential regulation on a new tourism fund is almost complete and hopes it will be issued before President Jokowi's term ends in October so the fund is up and running by next year to draw more foreign visitors to the country.

T

ourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno says a presidential regulation on the Indonesia Tourism Fund, which aims to attract more foreign visitors to Indonesia, is in the final stages and incorporates input from various ministries.

“[The regulation] has been coordinated by Pak [Mr.] Luhut Pandjaitan and is now being finalized," Sandiaga said on Sunday, as quoted by Bisnis.com, referring to the coordinating maritime affairs and investment minister.

“It will be submitted [as the legal basis] for preparing the Indonesian Tourism Fund,” the minister continued, underlining that the fund would not burden tourists, since it would be entirely funded by Rp 2 trillion (US$122 million) allocated from the state budget.

Sandiaga expressed his hope that the regulation would “ideally” be issued before President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s second and final term ends in four months, so the fund would be effective in 2025.

“So it might be issued in September or October," he said.
