o ensure the smooth implementation of the haj this year, the Customs and Excise Directorate General, as an agency tasked with checking baggage that passengers carry to and from abroad, has pledged to provide optimal service for haj pilgrims prior to departure or on arrival to Indonesia.
The customs and excise office will provide the optimal service through its vertical unit to all haj pilgrims at 13 embarkation and disembarkation airports.
Encep Dudi Ginanjar, head of the Public Relations and Counseling Subdirectorate at the Customs and Excise Directorate General said in Jakarta on Wednesday that to ensure the smooth process of the departure and arrival of haj pilgrims, the customs office had earlier highlighted several crucial points regarding customs regulations, particularly baggage, that haj pilgrims should understand.
Additionally, he asserted that the customs office had established collaboration with Saudi Customs with respect to the assistance process of checking luggage owned by Indonesian haj pilgrims.
Commonly, passengers’ baggage is checked by the customs office upon arrival in Indonesia. However, thanks to the collaboration with Saudi Customs, in 2024 the Customs and Excise Office also uses hi-co x-ray to check travelers’ baggage prior to departure to ensure that it complies with the regulations that Saudi Customs has set, or vice versa, for Indonesian haj pilgrims that will return to Indonesia.
“The collaboration can expedite the process of customs clearance of traveler baggage in the two countries so as to avert the accumulation of goods and allow haj pilgrims to focus more on their haj rituals,” Encep said.
Despite the assistance related to the checking that Saudi Customs has provided, the customs office is committed to carrying out its tasks and supervising goods that haj pilgrims bring on arrival at Indonesia.
The Customs and Excise Office has teamed up with various parties, including the Indonesian Haj Management Committee (PPIH), the Indonesian Military (TNI), the National Police, quarantine and immigration, to provide ease for the checking process, which has become the office’s primary focus, so as to expedite the service, and this way, haj pilgrims can return home undisrupted by the customs process.
Despite the focus given to providing ease of service, Encep asserted that the inspection process referred to regulations set out in PMK-203/PMK.04/2017 on stipulations on the export and import of goods that travelers carry and transportation means.
“We also call on haj pilgrims to contact Bravo Bea Cukai [at] 1500225 or through the available channel at linktr.ee/bravobeacukai for further information related to passenger baggage rules,” Encep said.
