ndonesia will start shipping battery precursors to the United States for Tesla by the end of this year, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on Monday.

Battery precursor is a material used to manufacture battery cathodes, which producers will later assemble into electric vehicle batteries.

“This month, our precursors will have been directly exported to America for Tesla products,” Bahlil said on Monday, as quoted by news agency Antara.

Tesla did not immediately respond to request for comments.

Indonesia, home to the largest nickel reserves in the world, has been seeking to position itself as a key player in the global EV supply chain.
