Foreign travelers up 16% this year, immigration office reports

he Directorate General of Immigration has recorded a significant rise in the number of foreign travelers this year, with some 24.5 million border crossings logged as of Dec. 15, marking a 16 percent increase compared with last year.

That figure comprises around 12.3 million arrivals and 12.2 million departures.

The number of foreign nationals visiting the country recorded so far already surpasses last year’s total foreign arrivals, which amounted to 11.68 million, according to Statistics Indonesia (BPS).

In addition, the latest BPS report shows an increase in foreign arrivals during the January to October period of this year to 11.57 million, up 20.5 percent from the same period in 2023.

The number of foreign nationals traveling to the archipelago peaked at 1.34 million in August, up 18.3 percent year-on-year (yoy), before declining over the next two months to 1.19 million in October, which still represented a 22 percent yoy increase.
