The benchmarking studies ought to take a team of government officials to Egypt, Turkey and India to learn the design of their legislative and judiciary buildings for Indonesia's planned new capital city.
he government has cancelled trips meant for benchmarking studies related to the Nusantara Capital City project, citing widespread budget cuts across ministries and agencies.
Deputy Public Works Minister Diana Kusumastuti said on Friday that the studies were meant for benchmarking the design construction of legislative and judiciary areas, but the trips, which included visits to three countries, were cancelled as the ministry underwent budget streamlining.
“Yes, it seems like [the benchmarking studies] will be postponed because of the [budget] cut,” Diana was quoted as saying by Bisnis.com.
Regardless, she ensured that the study to support the future capital city would still take place through other options, though she did not elaborate the details.
The deputy minister said the postponement was taken in conformity with the directives from President Prabowo Subianto.
“Alhamdulillah, we have followed the President's orders and hopefully we can keep going on,” said Diana.
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said on Feb. 13 that Prabowo instructed the Nusantara Capital City Authority to conduct benchmarking studies abroad to come up with a better design.
