People living in Greater Jakarta area took to social media expressing their frustration as they were stuck in traffic leading to the port for hours.
tate-owned port operator PT Pelindo has promised a long-term solution to prevent massive congestion in the future similar to that which paralyzed much of North Jakarta for two days last week.
Pelindo president director Arif Suhartono said on Tuesday the inbound and outbound flow at the container terminal had returned to normal.
“We apologize for the inconvenience in the past few days and [we promise] to keep collaborating with every port stakeholder to ensure such an incident does not occur again,” Arif said in a press statement.
People living in Greater Jakarta took to social media expressing their frustration as they found themselves stuck in traffic leading to the port for hours.
The New Priok Container Terminal 1 (NPCT1) made a mistake in its operations and planning that caused a spike in activity that exceeded the terminal’s container loading and unloading service capacity, he said.
The mistake caused docking delays that led to three cargo ships being berthed together at the terminal, while the number of trucks coming to the port kept increasing, both to deliver and transport out containers.
To reduce the congestion at NPCT1, Pelindo and the authority moved the ships to berths at other terminals. Arif claimed that all port systems and facilities were functioning under normal conditions and were now running well.
