he Argentine government expects to expand its beef export market to Indonesia this year, promising competitive prices and reciprocal access for Indonesian products.
Agustin Tejeda Rodriguez, undersecretary for agrifood markets and international integration at Argentina’s Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, under the Ministry of Agriculture, has expressed his country’s readiness to export beef to Indonesia and said the ministry would seek to ensure competitive prices.
This was discussed during a meeting hosted by Indonesian Deputy Agriculture Minister Sudaryono in Jakarta on Wednesday, where the minister showed keen interest in pursuing opportunities for cooperation with Argentina in the livestock sector to meet Indonesian demand for beef and live cattle.
Sudaryono emphasized three key aspects in exploring mutual cooperation with Argentina, including prices, a reciprocal mechanism and halal certification.
“There are long and distant logistical matters. Argentina is on the opposite side of [the globe]. So it's a long way away, and we pay close attention to price compatibility,” he said in a press release on Wednesday.
Agustin welcomed the opportunity for cooperation and expressed hope that the meeting would result in a mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries. “Our relations are not limited to trade but also [extend to] investment,” he said.
The volume of beef to be exported to Indonesia was still under discussion, Agustin said, reiterating a commitment to become Indonesia’s long-term trade partner.
