resident Prabowo Subianto has presided over the launch of production at the Forel and Terubuk oil and gas fields in the South Natuna Sea Block B, Riau Islands, on May 16.
The project, operated by Medco E&P Natuna Ltd., is valued at approximately US$600 million and will produce 20,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and 60 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas.
The Marlin Natuna floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel used in the Forel project is the first Indonesian-built converted tanker.
President Prabowo emphasized that kicking off production at the Forel and Terubuk fields marks a critical milestone in Indonesia’s pursuit of self-sufficiency in energy supply, which was essential for the nation’s independence.
“We, the government and the people, are truly proud of this remarkable accomplishment. The inauguration of these two projects is the first in the upstream oil and gas sector under my administration,” he said in a statement issued on Friday.
