M

erchants on Indonesian e-commerce platform Tokopedia say a mandatory linkup with fellow ByteDance-owned platform TikTok Shop creates operational hassle for them because of a malfunctioning dashboard and the loss of certain benefits.

An online flier issued by Tokopedia detailed that Monday was the deadline for what it called an “integration” of the two platforms, where merchants have to enroll on a single dashboard called Tokopedia & TikTok Shop Seller Center.

Tokopedia did not detail what ramification a failure to meet the integration deadline would entail. Instead, the campaign focused the attention on “the opportunities”, such as giving Tokopedia sellers “access to 8 million TikTok content creators” or “access to 200 million consumers”.

ByteDance representative Aditia Nelwan was not immediately available for comment.

Michael Christiawan, a long-time Tokopedia seller who has also been active on TikTok Shop since 2023, said stores’ “operations could not roll” unless retailers hooked up with the seller center.

The traditional tea merchant told The Jakarta Post on Monday that, while the integration process was “going well”, he ran into some technical difficulties since some of the dashboard features were still under development, for instance adverts, making it difficult to advertise on Tokopedia.

There were also hiccups with other dashboard features, he said, like shipment label printing and order processing.
