resident Prabowo Subianto has revealed that state-owned flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is the one to be purchasing the United States’ Boeing planes as part of the tariff deal achieved this week.
Upon landing at Halim Perdanakusuma airport following a 15-day trip abroad on Wednesday, Prabowo said he was seeking to enlarge Garuda, hence the need for new planes.
“I think there’s no problem [in the deal] because we need [planes], and they want to sell. Boeing planes are good enough, and we’re still [going to purchase] from Airbus too,” said Prabowo in a broadcast doorstep interview.
The purchase is part of the tariff deal Jakarta managed to secure with Washington on Tuesday as announced by US President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform.
“As part of the Agreement, Indonesia has committed to purchasing US$15 Billion Dollars in US Energy, $4.5 Billion Dollars in American Agricultural Products, and 50 Boeing Jets, many of them 777’s,” wrote Trump.
