anda RE Pte Ltd, a joint venture between Singapore-based renewable energy developer Gurīn Energy and Gentari International Renewables, has signed a framework supply agreement with Chinese battery producer Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL).
The deal includes the procurement of up to 2.2 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of CATL’s EneX battery energy storage system (BESS) for a solar power and storage project in Riau Islands. The batteries will be manufactured at CATL’s factory in Karawang, West Java, which broke ground at the end of June and will have a total production capacity of 15 gigawatts (GW).
In total, the project will comprise 2 gigawatt-peak (GWp) of installed solar capacity and 4.4 GWh of battery storage.
“Vanda RE is committed to developing the project to the highest technical and operational standards, which is why we are delighted to have secured CATL’s best-in-class batteries,” Enda Ginting, country manager of Gurīn Energy Indonesia, said in a press release on Thursday.
Earlier this year, Vanda RE also signed a framework supply agreement with Chinese photovoltaic company LONGi Green Energy Technology Co. Ltd. to purchase solar panels with a capacity of 1 GW, which will also be used at the Riau facility.
In June, LONGi launched the construction of a manufacturing facility in Deltamas, West Java, in partnership with the renewable energy unit of state-owned Pertamina.
As a result, both the solar panels and batteries used by Vanda RE are expected to meet the local content requirement (TKDN).
