P

elita Air made its international debut on Monday with a new Jakarta–Singapore route, marking the Pertamina-owned carrier’s first overseas service since transforming from a private charter operator to a commercial airline in 2022.

The daily flight, operated with an Airbus A320, departs Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 7:10 a.m. and lands at Changi Airport at 10 a.m. local time. The return flight leaves Singapore at 11 a.m. and arrives back in Jakarta at 11:50 a.m.

“We chose Singapore as our first international destination because it is a central hub in Southeast Asia that plays a vital role in facilitating the flow of tourists, business players and investment into Indonesia,” Pelita Air president director Dendy Kurniawan said, as quoted by Tempo on Monday.

The move places Pelita Air on one of the most competitive routes in the region. According to data from Official Airline Guide (OAG), the Jakarta–Singapore connection ranked as the world’s eighth-busiest international flight corridor in 2024, with more than 4 million scheduled seats.

Demand on the route rose 4 percent compared with 2023, reflecting its importance for both leisure and business travelers. The corridor sits alongside Kuala Lumpur–Singapore, ranked fourth globally and Bangkok–Singapore, ranked ninth, reinforcing Changi Airport’s status as Southeast Asia’s premier hub.
