he government has announced plans to extend the newly launched internship program for fresh graduates as it seeks to expand job access for young talents in the country.
Manpower Minister Yassierli said the ministry had issued a circular on Monday for local governments to help increase company participation in the effort.
“We are targeting 100,000 internship opportunities by the end of 2025. Therefore, we encourage businesses to take part by opening up internship opportunities for Indonesia’s young generation,” he said in a press conference on Monday, as quoted in a press release.
The internship program, open for registration from Oct. 7 to 15, will accept 20,000 participants in its first batch. The government plans to gradually increase the quota to 80,000 by the end of 2025, with the second batch scheduled to launch on Nov. 17.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to continue the program in 2026.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) has criticized the internship program targeting fresh graduates, arguing that, under the prevailing manpower law and omnibus Job Creation Law, internships were intended for high school, vocational school or university students who were still pursuing their studies.
Speaking at a press conference broadcast online on Monday, KSPI chairman Said Iqbal raised concerns about the potential misuse of the program and accused the Manpower Ministry of distorting the concept of internships to the point where it could encourage corruption, particularly through job training institutions (LPK) serving as intermediaries.
