T Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGEO), the geothermal energy arm of state-owned oil and gas giant Pertamina, aims to reach installed capacity of 1.8 gigawatts (GW) by 2033.
This long-term vision is bolstered by strong current performance, with the company optimistic about achieving a milestone 1 GW within two to three years.
Currently, PGEO’s installed capacity amounts to 727 megawatts (MW).
At its flagship Kamojang facility in West Java’s Bandung regency, electricity generation for the first nine months of 2025 was recorded at 1.32 gigawatt-hours (GWh), a 1.1 percent increase from the same period in 2024.
With a total installed capacity of 235 MW, the Kamojang power plant plays a critical role in Indonesia's clean energy landscape, as its consistent output of geothermal energy provides a reliable, baseload power source that helps overcome the intermittency issues faced by solar and wind generation.
“With this [installed] capacity, the Kamojang geothermal power plant can supply electricity to more than 260,000 households every day, year-round, without relying on sunlight, weather or fossil fuels,” PGEO Kamojang acting general manager Hendrik K. Sinaga said in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday, as reported by Bisnis.
The Kamojang geothermal power plant comprises five units. Three of these, with a combined capacity of 140 MW, are operated by Indonesia Power, with PGEO acting as the steam supplier. The remaining two units, with a total capacity of 95 MW, are operated by PGEO.
