T

he Manpower Ministry has reported that reports made through its new Lapor Menaker complaints platform point to significant violations relating to the hiring of foreign workers, leading to fines totaling billions of rupiah.

“In the last four months, we received 18 complaints concerning violations in the employment of foreign workers, with total fines exceeding Rp 7 billion [US$419,000],” Manpower Minister Yassierli said at the ministry’s offices on Thursday.

He highlighted a case in Banten, where an international company allegedly employed 583 foreign workers without the required Foreign Worker Utilization Plan (RPTKA) approval.

In response, central and provincial labor inspectors conducted an investigation, issued an official inspection notice and ordered the company to suspend all activities involving foreign workers until the proper permits are issued.

The company in question was fined Rp 588 million, according to the minister, which has since been deposited in the state treasury.
