T GoTo Gojek Tokopedia (GoTo) has named a new chief executive officer to replace Patrick Walujo in a leadership shake-up that analysts say could accelerate a potential takeover of Indonesia’s homegrown technology company by regional rival Grab.

The company said in a statement on Monday that chief operating officer Hans Patuwo had been nominated to succeed Patrick, pending shareholder approval.

Patrick’s resignation comes amid speculation of a possible merger between GoTo and Grab, which government officials were discussing with the two companies earlier this month.

GoTo management said the latest leadership changes were part of a succession process reflecting its “commitment to ensuring stability, strategic continuity and operational excellence as GoTo enters its next phase of sustainable growth and profitability.”

“Patrick has led GoTo through a transformation that strengthened the company’s financial fundamentals, sharpened operational focus and restored clarity on its long-term direction,” GoTo chief commissioner Agus Martowardojo said.
