ore details have been announced on the plan to use the Meikarta project for the public housing program, with the government preparing the construction of 141,000 subsidized apartments on 30 hectares in Cikarang, Bekasi regency.
“This development is estimated to employ around 80,000 workers across various sectors, while also accelerating economic activity along the supply chain,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said on Thursday after a meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Public Housing and Settlement Minister Maruarar “Ara” Sirait.
The housing initiative is part of the government’s efforts to expand access to affordable housing, accompanied by cuts to licensing requirements and administrative costs.
Earlier in the day, Ara initiated the land clearing phase for a subsidized apartment project at the Meikarta site.
He said the land had been declared “clean and clear” from a legal standpoint following coordination with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).
“I have asked the Bekasi regent to ensure that all permits for this project are processed in accordance with regulations, cleanly and transparently. We want the project to move quickly, but to remain accountable and free from legal issues in the future,” he said.
The 30-ha development consists of three plots of land.
