ndonesia’s coffee exporters are targeting around US$1.3 billion in export earnings this year, as domestic production is expected to decline due to unfavorable weather.

The target, set by the Indonesia Coffee Exporters Association (AEKI), is based on the assumption that the country could ship up to 5.5 million bags of coffee, with each bag weighing around 60 kilograms.

The figure marks a drop from last year, when Indonesia exported around $2.5 billion worth of coffee products, excluding instant coffee.

Moelyono Soesilo, AEKI’s head of specialty and industry department, said the target takes into account relatively stable global demand, despite the expected decrease in domestic coffee production due to weather disruptions.

“Production has fallen by around 15 percent to 20 percent compared to last year because of weather factors,” Moelyono said on Thursday, as quoted by Kumparan.

According to an analysis by the independent research group Climate Central, the world’s major coffee-growing regions are experiencing increasing heat linked to climate change, threatening harvests and contributing to rising prices.
