Indonesia’s most-prominent photography festival is back, exhibiting eponymous revival photos.

The inaugural Jakarta International Photography Festival (JIPF) recently returned for the third time in Blok M, South Jakarta from Sept. 9 to 25, themed Revival. A massive lineup of 59 guest stars from nine countries -- including the United States, the Netherlands, Belgium, India, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Japan, Norway and Singapore -- will exhibit their captured images.

Asep Topan, the festival’s curator said that this event marks a revival of the creative industry, thereby enabling visitors’ immersion in themes such as culture, immigration and women’s empowerment.

Additionally, Asep shared that this year's exhibition concept commemorates the idea of ziarah (pilgrimage), thereby hopefully reviving the creative industry in Indonesia.

"The concept of ziarah was chosen for our curatorial approach thanks to its linkage with the idea of revival. It is, however, unfortunate that most venues are closed due to the pandemic, thereby inspiring us to implement the concept of ziarah, hoping that such a kind of idea could revive support for other creative industries," explained Asep.

Held for the first time in 2019, JIPF has taken place in varying venues, such as Taman Ismail, Central Jakarta, in 2019 and Kota Lama, West Jakarta, in 2021, encouraging visitors to explore different areas of Jakarta. This year, the exhibition invites visitors to explore South Jakarta by hosting the event at several spots, such as Teater Bulungan, Lamandau House, Taman Langsat, Kala Karya gallery space, KALA di Kalijaga and Soup N' Film.

All the designated spaces are located near the transit-oriented-development (tod) area, easily accessed by visitors via their choice of public transportations.
