The French Embassy in Jakarta is working with the Indonesian Olympics Committee and two French corporations to hold a sporting photography exhibition ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. This is the third time the City of Light will host a Summer Games, exactly 100 years after its second hosting in 1924. Paris first hosted the quadrennial sporting event in 1900.
he Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are fast approaching and the City of Light is now buzzing with excitement. From July 26 to Aug. 11, some of the world's best athletes will converge on Paris to compete for glory and set new records.
Although Indonesia is far from the venue of this upcoming sports event, we can still share in the joy and enthusiasm. In welcoming the Games, the French Embassy, in collaboration with the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI), Agence France-Presse (AFP) and Decathlon Indonesia, presents the “France-Indonesia: Road to Paris 2024” photo exhibition.
Running until Sept. 8, the exhibition is hosted in the lobby of the French Institute in Indonesia (IFI) on Jl. MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, on the exterior walls of the French Embassy Jakarta and in all Decathlon stores nationwide. It showcases iconic pictures of Indonesian and French athletes in various international competitions, taken by AFP photojournalists.
"The Olympics and Paralympics embody the noblest values of sports: Excellence, respect and friendship," French Ambassador to Indonesia Fabien Penone said in his opening remarks at IFI Thamrin on Apr. 25.
"They transcend boundaries and unite nations in the spirit of fair and honorable competition, as reflected in their motto: 'Faster, Higher, Stronger - Together.'"
History of excellence
During his speech, the ambassador briefly brought to mind the history of the modern Olympics.
