he public’s love of preserving nature needs to be continually nurtured, and that’s why the Central Region Housekeeping Division of Archipelago was engaged in the release of baby green turtles and beach cleanup activities at Goa Cemara Beach in Bantul regency, Yogyakarta.

The event was held on Aug. 12, 2023, and was attended by 31 housekeepers from hotels in Central Java and Yogyakarta, including personnel from ASTON Inn Pandanaran, ASTON Inn Cilacap, ASTON Bojonegoro, ASTON Imperium Purwokerto, ASTON Solo, Favehotel Diponegoro, Favehotel Kusumanegara, Favehotel Malioboro, Favehotel Solo, Favehotel Rembang, NEO Candi Semarang, NEO Malioboro, Royal Malioboro, Quest Prime Pemuda, Quest Simpang Lima, The Alana Solo, The Alana Malioboro, The Alana Yogyakarta and NEO Gading.

Goa Cemara Beach, home to hundreds of green sea turtles and loggerhead turtles, is located on the South Ring Road of Sanden subdistrict, Bantul regency.

Held as part of the respective hotels’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, the activity aimed to preserve the marine turtle ecosystem, pursue environmental sustainability and maintain the cleanliness of the beach area.

Accompanied by beach custodians, the participants were taken to a turtle-breeding area, where The Alana Malioboro contributed to the construction of the turtle breeding facility in 2017.

Guided by the beach management, the participants learned how to handle tukik (baby turtles) and the history of Goa Cemara Beach. Then they were led to the turtle release area, and together, they released the tukik into the sea.

Following the activity, they walked along the beach toward the zero-meters-above-sea-level point of Goa Cemara Beach while cleaning up the beach and picking up litter along its shores.

"Organizing this CSR activity has showcased Archipelago's care and support for the preservation of nature and the surrounding environment, especially the sea," Novia remarked.
