NM has once again launched a community development initiative focused on location-based empowerment, taking into account various local conditions. This time, PNM's Madani Village was officially inaugurated in Tanjung Bunut Village, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra, with a focus on pineapple leaf processing.
South Sumatra Acting Governor Elen Setiadi, Assistant Deputy for Mining Industry Downstream Development at the Coordinating Economic Ministry Agus Wibowo and Muara Enim Regent Liono Basuki were present to show support at the inauguration, which was also attended by 55 PNM Mekaar customers and PNM Business Director Prasetya Sayekti.
Customers in the Madani Village area were given training on weaving with pineapple leaf fibers to produce economically valuable products as part of the empowerment activities.
Prasetya noted that the PNM Madani Village could help village residents who previously did not have a steady income. Not only did PNM provide training, but it also contributed shredding machines to help the community.
"This processing turns pineapple leaf waste into pineapple fiber, which can be used to make fabric, clothing and handicrafts. The benefits are significant. Besides being eco-friendly, the material is biodegradable and, when further processed, can become products with high economic value," he explained.
In addition to the pineapple leaf shredding machines, PNM also built a public toilet facility and a bore well for the village.
"Before the PNM Madani Village program, the residents had no stable economic activities. Now they have jobs that generate income. The training provided has also opened up new insights into pineapple leaf processing, which has the potential to create wider business opportunities," Prasetya concluded.
