ndonesia telah menyatakan minat untuk bergabung dengan kelompok negara berkembang utama BRICS, yang terdiri dari Brasil, Rusia, India, China, dan Afrika Selatan. Menurut para ahli, langkah tersebut bisa memberi manfaat, tetapi juga bisa berdampak negatif.

Wakil Menteri Perdagangan Jerry Sambuaga mengatakan kepada wartawan pada hari Jumat bahwa bergabung dengan kelompok ini dapat menghasilkan peluang perdagangan baru. Lokasi geografis kelompok tersebut beragam dan populasinya besar.

“Minatnya ada, potensinya jelas, dan peluangnya terbuka,” kata Jerry di sela-sela Pertemuan Menteri Ekonomi ASEAN (ASEAN Economic Ministers atau AEM) ke-55 di Semarang, Jawa Tengah. Menurut Jerry, bergabung dengan BRICS dapat membuka pintu ke “pasar nontradisional” Amerika Selatan dan Afrika. Selama ini, Indonesia relatif belum terlalu banyak mengeksplorasi kerja sama di wilayah tersebut.

Data Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) menunjukkan bahwa pada 2022 ekspor Indonesia ke negara-negara anggota BRICS mencapai $93,16 miliar dolar Amerika, sedangkan impor mencapai $84,27 miliar. Sebagian besar dihasilkan dari kerja sama dengan China, yaitu 70,9 persen ekspor dan 79 persen impor.

Sejalan dengan pernyataan Jerry, data yang sama menunjukkan bahwa perdagangan 2022 antara Indonesia dan Brasil hanya berjumlah $5,26 miliar, sementara ekspor dan impor dengan Afrika Selatan tercatat $3,2 miliar. Artinya, peluang masih terbuka lebar.

“Dalam perdagangan, yang terpenting adalah keuntungan. […] Jika dapat diprediksi, dapat dikerjakan, dapat diukur, dan dapat dijadikan angka, lalu jika angka tersebut memenuhi [ekspektasi], mengapa tidak?” kata Jerry.
