ibuan pengunjuk rasa turun ke jalan pada Hari Buruh Internasional, yang dikenal sebagai May Day, pada Rabu 1 Mei. Mereka menuntut pencabutan Undang-Undang (UU) Cipta Kerja yang kontroversial. UU tersebut dianggap telah mengabaikan hak-hak para pekerja serta tidak melindungi mereka.

Sekitar 50.000 buruh dilaporkan berpartisipasi dalam demonstrasi Rabu kemarin, di Jakarta. Ribuan buruh lainnya mengadakan demonstrasi serupa di Bandung, Jawa Barat; Semarang, Jawa Tengah; Surabaya, Jawa Timur; Makassar, Sulawesi Selatan; serta Aceh dan Pekanbaru di Sumatera.

Konfederasi Serikat Pekerja Indonesia (KSPI) berpendapat bahwa UU Cipta Kerja berdampak pada hak dan kesejahteraan pekerja. Hal itu bertentangan dengan pendapat

para pendukung undang-undang ketenagakerjaan, yang telah memperjuangkan agar undang-undang tersebut disahkan. Menurut para pendukung, UU Cipta Kerja merupakan cara untuk menarik investasi dan meningkatkan perekonomian negara melalui pemangkasan birokrasi.

UU Cipta kerja merupakan omnibus law yang kontroversial. UU tersebut disahkan pada akhir 2020. Di dalamnya, terdapat pasal-pasal yang mengurangi atau bahkan menghilangkan sepenuhnya hak pekerja atas pembayaran upah di luar tunjangan pokok. UU juga semakin melonggarkan persyaratan hukum untuk proses alih daya tenaga kerja serta memungkinkan beberapa industri tertentu, termasuk usaha mikro dan kecil, akhirnya mengabaikan peraturan upah minimum regional.

“Sejak UU Cipta Kerja berlaku, daya beli buruh turun 30 persen. Tingkat inflasi di kota-kota industri meningkat menjadi 2,8 persen, meski rata-rata terdapat kenaikan upah 1,58 persen,” kata Ketua KSPI Said Iqbal, seperti dikutip tribunnews. com. “Kami para buruh hanya mampu menanggung pengeluaran setara 1 persen pengeluaran tertinggi [milik orang-orang terkaya di negara ini],” tambahnya.
