Sejak kebijakan tersebut diterapkan, antrean panjang telah terbentuk di luar distributor LPG resmi di berbagai daerah. Ribuan warga menyatakan frustrasi atas perjuangan mereka untuk mendapatkan gas untuk memasak.

Pemerintah memutuskan untuk mencabut keputusan mendadaknya untuk melarang pengecer kecil menjual tabung gas minyak cair (LPG atau disebut elpiji) 3 kilogram. Kebijakan tersebut menyebabkan kelangkaan dan antrean panjang di seluruh negeri.

Wakil Ketua DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad dari Partai Gerindra, menyatakan bahwa presiden telah menginstruksikan Menteri Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral Bahlil Lahadalia untuk mengizinkan pengecer menjual tabung LPG 3 kg. Gerindra adalah partai yang diketuai Presiden Prabowo Subianto.

"Sementara itu, pemerintah akan secara bertahap mendaftarkan pengecer ini sebagai sub-distributor resmi, untuk memastikan [kepatuhan terhadap batasan harga pemerintah] dan mencegah harga LPG menjadi terlalu tinggi bagi masyarakat," kata Dasco dalam sebuah pernyataan yang dikeluarkan pada Selasa lalu.

Dasco juga menegaskan kebijakan pembatasan distribusi elpiji 3 kg bukan inisiatif Presiden Prabowo, melainkan Kementerian Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral. Harian Kompas melaporkan, Presiden turun tangan setelah mendapat laporan bahwa aturan penjualan baru itu menyebabkan antrean panjang karena masyarakat kesulitan membeli gas elpiji.
