President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo appears unable to resist the urge to indulge in his love of motorcycle riding of late.
For the first time since the pandemic hit the country some two years ago, the President was seen enjoying the fresh air while riding a customized motorcycle during a working visit to North Sumatra earlier this month. He at the time was inspecting the road infrastructure from Sibisa to Bebas Parapat Beach.
Riding in front of his motorcade, Jokowi was joined by Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono and Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno – each also driving a bike.
It was the same motorcycle Jokowi rode when he inspected the newly built 4.3-kilometer Mandalika International Circuit in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara on Jan. 13 after he inaugurated the country’s first world-class racing track in November last year.
With a green livery, the chopper bobber motorcycle was provided by custom bike builder Katros Garage, built on a 175-cc Kawasaki W175 chassis.
Instead of his typically rolled-up long-sleeved white shirt, he wore a Group of 20-themed black and green jacket in Mandalika, which appeared to match the color of the motorbike. Indonesia will host the G20 summit in November.
Entering eight years of his presidency, the President and his motorbikes – from custom to electric and dirt bikes – have frequently made headlines.
