The arrests came as authorities stepped up their investigation into the illegal incarceration of people in iron-barred cells at Terbit’s residence.
orth Sumatra Police have arrested eight suspects on human-trafficking charges, including Dewa Perangin-Angin – the son of inactive Langkat regent and graft suspect Terbit Rencana Perangin-Angin, on Friday.
The arrests came as authorities stepped up their investigation into the illegal incarceration of people in iron-barred cells at Terbit’s residence.
“The eight suspects were arrested in order to speed up the investigation process,” North Sumatra Police chief Insp. Gen. Panca Putra Simanjuntak said on Friday.
Of the eight suspects, seven were named as suspects in violent deaths and two for human-trafficking violations, with one suspect being implicated in two alleged crimes.
The police previously named the eight people as suspects last month, although they did not immediately detain them, citing the suspects’ cooperation with the investigation. The suspects allegedly acted as caretakers of the cells and were involved in the activities that led to the deaths of at least three victims.
In addition to the eight suspects, the police have also named Terbit a suspect in the deaths and illegal incarceration of people at his residence.
