Jokowi heading to Russia by way of Poland

The presidential press bureau has announced that President Joko Widodo is en route to Moscow via Poland to continue his peacebuilding mission to bring an end to the war and help ease global pressures.

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is on his way back to Poland following his visit to Kyiv, before he heads to Moscow on a peacebuilding mission to mitigate some of the global impacts of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The press bureau of the Presidential Secretariat announced on Thursday that the President, First Lady Iriana Widodo and other members of the presidential entourage departed from Kyiv-Pasazhyrskyi Station at 7 p.m. (11 p.m. Jakarta time) on Wednesday on a sleeper train headed to Przemysl Glowny Station in Przemysl, Poland.

The group, which includes Foreign Minister Retno L.P. Marsudi and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, is scheduled to arrive on Thursday morning in Poland. From the train station, the President and his entourage are to travel directly to Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport and board a flight to Moscow, according to the press bureau.

Jokowi arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday morning on a special train provided by the Ukrainian government for visiting world leaders.

Jokowi had a packed itinerary that culminated in his meeting with President Zelensky at Mariyinsky Palace.

On the first leg of his visit, Jokowi inspected the ruins of the Lipky apartment complex in Irpin, a small town on the outskirts of Kyiv that had been the site of intense fighting. The city was badly shelled by Russian artillery, but Ukrainian forces were able to repel the invaders.
