T

he National Police have suspended internal affairs chief Insp. Gen. Ferdy Sambo in relation to the ongoing special investigation into the alleged shootout between two subordinates at his residence that left one offficer dead.

Brig. Nopryansyah Yosua Hutabarat was reportedly killed in an exchange of fire with second agent (Bharada) E at Ferdy’s residence in Jakarta on July 8. Bharada E had been at the residence in his capacity as Ferdy’s personal secretary, while Yosua was present in his duties as a chauffeur to Ferdy’s wife.

National Police chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo announced Ferdy’s suspension on Monday, and that his deputy Comr. Gen. Gatot Eddy Pramono would be temporarily assuming the post.

Listyo added that the decision was made to avoid any speculation that might affect the ongoing investigation into the incident, “so that the stages of the investigation can be conducted very well and clearly explain the incident,” he said as quoted by Tempo.

The police chief also promised that the investigation would be transparent and objective.

The police force was prompted to set up a special investigation team after a House of Representatives lawmaker and even the President commented on the incident, with the latter calling for “due process”.
