Local police have arrested a man who witnesses said stabbed his nephew to death on Tuesday at his school.
he North Sumatra Police have arrested 32-year-old Rahmat on suspicion of stabbing his 10-year-old nephew to death on Tuesday morning at a school in Sunggal district, Deli Serdang.
Sunggal Police chief Comr. Candra Yudha said the suspect was arrested near the vicinity of Jl. Medan Krio at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday.
“We are now questioning the suspect,” Chandra told The Jakarta Post on Saturday, adding that the suspect did not resist arrest.
“We’re still investigating the motive [for the attack],” the police chief said.
The incident happened in a sixth-grade classroom at Baiti Jannati Foundation elementary school.
Waluyo, who chairs the educational foundation, said the victim had just entered the classroom with his friends after the morning roll call when the incident occurred.
“The perpetrator came into the classroom and went directly to the victim’s desk. He stabbed [the victim] in the chest with a kitchen knife,” said Waluyo.
