A

police investigation has concluded that illness was the cause of death for a family from Kalideres, West Jakarta, ruling out any criminal offense and putting a mystery to rest that has stumped bystanders for weeks.

The family of four, consisting of a father, mother, daughter and the father’s brother between the ages of 42 and 71, were found dead on Nov. 10 in their home in Kalideres. They were discovered after neighbors complained of a rotten smell emanating from the house for some time.

The Jakarta Police general crimes division chief, Sr. Comr. Hengki Hariyadi, recently said the investigation was concluded after finding no element of foul play.

“The deaths that occurred at the Kalideres crime scene were natural deaths under unnatural conditions,” Hengki said on Friday, as quoted by Kompas daily.

This conclusion, Hengki went on to say, was based on the findings presented by different experts, including forensic doctors and experts, as well as psychologists and sociologists, who were brought in for the investigation.
